Day 125- Gilda's Family Walk and Run

This passed Saturday was the Gilda's Family Walk and Run in Royal Oak.  My sister and I decided to run this 5k for our parents, both of them are cancer survivors.  We formed Team Hold the Mayo! and decided to make shirts.  Our last names are on the back and Maureen had the number 51 on hers, the year our dad was born.  I had 55 on mine for the year our mom was born.  We put their names on the sleeves, dad was yellow (like mustard!) and mom was green (relish!). :oD  We did Mayo in white on the front...such silliness.  Lol.

The weather was awesome that day.  Adalynn and I picked up Maureen and we headed to Royal Oak High School.  We picked up our bib numbers and shirts, then we found mom, Debbi and Debbi's fiancé, Terry.  After meeting up with them we went to the starting line.  Runners lined up first and the walkers were in the back.  Maureen and I were right up front.  Mom, Debbi, Terry and Addy went to the back since they were walking (mom pushed Addy in the jogging stroller).  It was a little weird being in the front!  Maureen kept my pace the whole time instead of being a speed racer.  Lol.  The first mile went by quick, I was 2 seconds away from getting a PR for my 1 mile time!  We slowed down a little for miles 2 and 3.  The race route had a nice view but one of the roads was more like a trail than a road.  There was loose dirt and rocks all over with some awesome potholes.  Moe even said "I didn't know this was a trail run".  Lol.  The route did take us passed Gilda's Club, though, which I thought was pretty cool.  There were a lot of people cheering on the roadsides and at the finish line.  We got a bunch of goodies to snack on afterwards, like bagels, bananas, granola...the usual.  My official time was 26:04.  I was 6th out of 27 females ages 20-29.  Moe was 4th out of 17 females ages 30-39, her time was 26:01.  I was glad she ran at my pace with me and kept me company.  :o)  It was a fun race and I'm glad we raised money for a good cause.
